Essay on 'Agriculture in Nepal'


Nepal is an agricultural country. it is a developing country so is not developed in industries. Most of the people live in the village. So the progress of the country depends upon the progress of agriculture. Agriculture is the base of our country’s economy. More than 70% of our human resources are involved in agriculture and this sector provides for nearly 40% of the gross domestic product. Thus agriculture is the major occupation, main enterprise and the major lifestyle of the country.



Agriculture is backward in our country. Our land does not give a satisfactory yield. The causes are many. Our farmers are poor and so they cannot spend much money on farming. Most of the fertile land is in the Terai region. The farmers in Nepal produce different kinds of crops and vegetables. They keep some for themselves and sell some of the crops for earning money. They are illiterate and do not know the scientific methods of agriculture. They follow the old method. Again their land is divided into small holdings. Irrigational facilities, improved seeds, and fertilizers are not available to them. Agriculture is not as profitable as an industry. These are the main drawbacks of our agriculture.

Our agricultural system needs to improve. The above problem should be solved. Farmers should spend some money to improve their farming. They should be provided with high breed seeds. They should know the importance of modern agriculture. Irrigation, improved seeds, fertilizers, etc. should be made available in time. They have to take advice from the technicians. Besides, there should be the market facility. Cash crops should be encouraged. The government should support the agriculture more.

In Nepal, agriculture is the backbone of the nation’s economy. So, the government should make better efforts to improve our agriculture. Farmers should apply new and scientific methods. Unless agriculture is developed, the farmers will have to suffer a lot.

We all know the Biblical story of David and Goliath. Goliath was a giant of a man. He stuck fear in everyone’s heart. Struggle of Butterfly

A biology teacher was teaching his students how a caterpillar turns into a butterfly. He told the students that in the next couple of hours, the butterfly would struggle to come out of the cocoon but no one should help the butterfly. Then he left.  The students were waiting and it happened. The butterfly struggled to get out of the cocoon and against the advice of the teacher; one of the students took pity on it and decided to help the butterfly out of the cocoon. He broke the cocoon to help the butterfly so it didn’t have to struggle anymore. Then within a short moment, the butterfly died.  When a teacher returned, he was told what had happened. He explained to the student that it is a law of nature that the struggle to come out of the cocoon actually helps to develop the strength of the butterfly’s wing.
